Gasworks Brewing Wants You to Get Excited
If you’ve heard of Gasworks Brewing or visited their Lake Union location, you probably associate them with great views and summertime fun. Their new SODO location is a bit different.
Located in the Port 106 Industrial Center and former home of Seattle Cider Co., the new brewery is simple, industrial, and intentionally focused on one thing: beer.
“We’re certainly not pretending that we’re in Lake Union, but focusing on where our brand meets this new location”, says co-owner Kyle Hansen. “We always say there’s three pieces to this business: beer, food, and location. We’re putting beer first in SODO”.
Hansen started his brewing career at Georgetown Brewing and went on to work at several other breweries before co-founding Gasworks. He lives and breathes beer, and that’s the perfect energy for their beer-forward approach.
The larger space also gives Gasworks room to experiment in ways that weren’t possible at its Lake Union location. After hearing that Seattle Cider was moving out, Hansen and his partner, Cody Cluff, checked out the space and instantly fell in love.
“The equipment was already here, ready to go, and the property owner was very helpful with the lease terms,” Hansen said. “It really gave us the space and flexibility to be creative”.
With more room for taps, Gasworks can brew small batches of just about anything – maybe even a SODO-themed beer down the road.
Another draw was the connection between SODO and Georgetown. Hansen sees an opportunity to build on the energy and character found in both neighborhoods.
“We have to lean into the neighborhoods and all of the great things they have to offer,” he says. “The area just south of the stadiums is super fun to hang out. It’s been cool to see an area I’ve frequented turn into something that I’m now a part of. I hope to bring that atmosphere and energy down here.”
For now, the SODO location is focused on brewing, but Gasworks has bigger plans for the space. The brewery plans to add food options including pizza, burgers, and wings. They also plan to install a virtual golf simulator, dart boards, TV’s, and make the space available to rent for private events.
While the brewery is still getting settled into its new SODO home, Hansen says there’s plenty to look forward to.
“Get excited for the plans that we have,” he says. “We’re very ready and already getting started on plans to bring the taproom space to life”.
