Staff Spotlight: Amy Fox

Originally from Florida, Amy moved to Seattle in 2003 to serve as an AmeriCorps volunteer in a Seattle elementary school. Since then, she has worked as an office administrator in health care settings, schools, and other community-serving organizations, including the Washington Talking Book and Braille Library. Amy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Global Studies from The University of Washington and is a certified ESL teacher. In her spare time she enjoys volunteering at a pig sanctuary, pulling up invasive plants with various environmental groups, painting, and hanging out with her cats.

What were you up to before you started working at the SODO BIA?

I worked on the admin team at a small elementary school in Wallingford.

What brought you to Seattle?

I joined Americorps after high school and worked as an ESL tutor in a West Seattle Elementary school.

How does your job benefit ratepayers in SODO?

I’m the first point of contact when you call or visit the SODO BIA office! I’m here to connect you to the right member of our team, and to support the SODO BIA staff in their day-to-day operations.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I enjoy yoga, walking around the city, spending time with my cats, and painting.

Favorite SODO restaurant/bar/cafe?

Hooverville – I like how laid back it is – not stuffy at all.

Favorite SODO activity or point of interest?

I am a huge fan of the murals that line the lightrail tracks; I feel like I notice something new everytime I see them

This year (2023) marks 20 years of me living in Seattle!
