RSVP for the Second Neighborhood Business District Safety Forum
Last October we held a public safety forum in SODO at which our members were able to provide city and county leaders with information about the impact of crime and public disorder on our businesses, customers, and employees.
From information provided at the forum we commissioned the report “System Failure – Report on Prolific Offenders in Seattle’s Criminal Justice System”. What we found was that a significant portion of the criminal activity in our communities is committed by prolific offenders who are well known to Seattle police and have a large number of criminal cases in Seattle and King County Courts. For many of these individuals that means 10 or more bookings into jail in the past year.
Now that we have identified the specific problem, we need Seattle and King officials to respond with actions to bring civility to our streets and reforms to the criminal justice system.
Ballard, Downtown, University District, Pioneer Square, West Seattle, SODO, Chinatown/International District and Visit Seattle are inviting you to a second forum focused on follow up to the Prolific Offender report.
We are inviting city, county, and state officials to address the challenges our businesses are experiencing with drug dealers and users, public disorder, threatening behaviors and crime toward our customers and employees.
At our first meeting, your voices and your stories were critical to raising our officials’ awareness and understanding of these problems. Now, your presence and voices at this forum are essential to keeping that momentum building and holding our officials accountable for the results we require. Please join us for a constructive conversation about the problems and solutions to our public safety concerns:
The Second Neighborhood Business District Safety Forum will take place on Tuesday, May 14th from 5:00 – 7:00 PM, at the Nordic Heritage Museum, 2655 NW Market St in Ballard.
