Local Artists Add More Color (and Faces) to SODO’s Mural Scene
In partnership with the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture’s Hope Corps Mural program and Overall Creative, four new murals were installed throughout the district in early 2026. As part of our World Cup preparations, we also identified opportunities to freshen up SODO through additional public art projects.
Victor Melendez created a colorful tribute to the Seattle Seahawks just shortly after the team’s big Superbowl win. As visitors celebrated downtown, they saw the first glimpse of this beautiful bird right across from the Starbucks Center.

The next two murals were completed at the Shell station on 4th Ave S. Artist, Desmond Hansen, created a tribute to Seattle legends Nasty Nes and Sir Mix-a-lot, while Lord Ego painted a striking mural featuring an eyeball within a forest landscape.

At AltRider, artist theydrift transformed two walls facing Airport Way S and I-5 with a piece exploring movement, history, and the ways the past carries into the present through cowboy imagery.

Through a grant from 4Culture, the SODO BIA and Overall Creative collaborated on two additional murals along the SODO Track – a pathway of murals on properties along the Sound Transit light rail 1 line. Artists KSRA and David Teichner are in the process of creating vibrant gateway pieces to welcome World Cup visitors arriving by light rail. We’re excited to see their impacts continue well beyond the World Cup!
