SODO BIA’s Clean Team Makes Moves at Detective Cookie Chess Park

You’ve likely seen our Clean Team driving around SODO and didn’t even realize. Pressure washing, removing graffiti, and picking up trash are just a few things the team does to beautify SODO, and assist businesses and properties.

The Clean Team focuses their work on the SODO district, but they’re up to the task when our neighbors need assistance.

Detective Cookie mentioned to the BIA Team that the Chess Park, named in her honor, was in need of a clean ahead of the Rainier Beach Summer Event. Although the park is located outside of their typical boundaries, the Clean Team stepped up and agreed to help.

As soon as they were able, the team traveled down to Rainier Beach and pressure washed the concrete chess tables and seats.

Since the park opened in September 2022, Detective Cookie’s Chess Park has provided free access to a game that serves as a safe haven for children and community members. As a gathering place for people of all backgrounds that share a love for chess, the park is iconic part of Rainier Beach – and our Clean Team was honored to help it shine.

Check out the photos of their impact on Detective Cookie’s Chess Park and throughout SODO.
